    Look Closer...























    Watching 'American Beauty' on New Year's Day seemed to mirror my feelings towards the past year. The first time I watched it was a couple of years back - that experience left me confused about the plot and freaked out, nonetheless, by the multiple allusions to psychosis in almost every major character. Now, having watched it for the second time, I am no longer confused and about ten times more freaked out than before.

    So, 2006 might be better off left without thorough scrutiny. If the process of committing all those mistakes was as confusing, going down memory lane might re-evoke more (and perhaps unnecessary) shock, grieve and frustration.

    It's not that I feel obliged to reflect, but while I did reflect out of habit over the long weekend, my mind could hardly churn out events unrelated to lousy grades, heartaches, growing my hair out, chopping my hair off on impulse, then trying to grow it out all over again.

    2007? I can only hope for faster reflexes to deal with the signs Destiny provides and less envy for what it does not.
